When we return to school on Tuesday, it will be only natural that our students will want to discuss the traumatic events of the holidays with their friends. This is a normal part of starting the healing after a disaster and as adults, you will most likely do the same.
Whilst we do want you all to check in and share your experiences and start that healing process, we also recognise that just outside the classroom door, inside the classrooms or within ear-shot of students, isn’t the ideal place.
With this in mind, we absolutely encourage you to make use of our staff room space at any time, both next week and into the future. There is always plenty of tea and coffee in the canisters and I will pop some extra milk in the fridge. This is a much better space where you can gather and talk freely. We will also have staff around in case there is something you might like to ask or share with one of us. We also welcome all babies, toddlers and preschoolers into this space too.
In the classrooms, teachers will debrief with students in a sensitive manner and if appropriate there are some future projects in mind which can help students to support the local community to remain resilient and rebuild. What this looks like will be influenced by our observations of students upon their return to school and in the weeks following. As always, we have support available from the Department that we can and will call upon if required.
We have spent much of this week getting ready for you all and are excited to see you on Tuesday morning. The school day starts at 8:50 and students should not be on the grounds before 8:30 unless they are in OSHC , bus students who are dropped off prior to 8:30, must wait in the library. Students need to have their hats this term.
