Good Morning families
I thought I would just give you an update on how we are going here at Gumeracha.
Despite the news headlines being filled with reports of connection issues, crying children and stressed out teachers, we have had no major issues here. (I hope I haven’t just cursed us for today!)
We have successfully completed all of the Year 3, 5 and 7 writing and reading tests. A handful of students did have a few minor connection glitches during the writing test, but non lasted more than a minute and the kids didn’t seem to be bothered by it. The reading tests were completed with no disruptions at all.
Our students have, so far, approached the tests with confidence and a positive attitude and we remind them that although we do want them to do their best, we also know that NAPLAN is just one of the many ways we find out about their learning. We also remind them that NAPLAN does not measure the really important things about them like their character strengths, beliefs and values. Teachers simply use their NAPLAN results as another part of the evidence needed to assess and plan for them.
We will be sitting the spelling and grammar test today and then finish on Monday with the numeracy tests which funnily enough lots have said they are looking forward to.
We have good IT infrastructure in place so except for wide-spread issues with the NAPLAN website (as was the case earlier in the week) or 4G network outages, we are confident that we will continue to have a smooth testing period.
